Mireia was part of OneCoWork team for two years and is now part of the community working remotely for an American company.
In this interview, she tells us about her process to become a remote worker, her experience in the OCW community, and also she shares a couple of tips for all those who want to start or are starting to work remotely.
Hello coworkers! My name is Mireia and I work remotely as an Implementation Engineer for a platform called Kustomer. We work with and for all types of companies such as MasterClass, Glovo, or HardRock.
My job is to build chatbots for our clients using Artificial Intelligence and linguistic programming models. My work goes from the design of these chatbots including all the technical tasks such as dealing with databases, APIs, and many code scripts.
I studied Tourism Business Management and because of things in life I ended up as a Community Manager at OneCoWork Marina Port Vell and I fell in love with the place and the community.
I worked on the community team for almost two years until I decided to change careers. But I was clear that I wanted to stay in the cowork. So I opted for a programming Bootcamp and got a remote job that has allowed me to stay in the space and continue to enjoy everything it offers.
OneCoWork opens the doors to an infinite world of possibilities. You have access to a community of people with all kinds of "backgrounds" and are very open to meeting you and collaborating by sharing ideas and knowledge.
I would recommend it to all types of workers, from companies to freelancers, because it is like a small window to the world. It is a place where, if you need an expert in any field, someone to collaborate with, or someone to share a coffee with at 5 in the afternoon, you will find him.
OneCoWork is a place that makes you go to work with a smile on Monday morning and every day.
When I decided to change my career, I met many professionals who are now friends who helped me make the best decisions to start this new adventure.
I found the job through a coworker's partner, whom I met through meeting her at various events. There is always an opportunity for networking if you are at OneCoWork!
The entrepreneurial attitude of the cowork, in general, has also stuck with me a bit. I'm still in my early days, but I have a couple of projects in mind for the future and an open mind to any opportunities that may come along the way.
I think the number one secret to being productive is being aware of the flexibility you have and the ability to manage your time. And to get the most out of it, it is ESSENTIAL to be clear about your priorities for each day.
I consider that something essential is to find that flow that you are focused on, do everything possible to enter it, and avoid distractions. There are people who have a certain type of music that they listen to concentrate and that is their way of telling their brain "it's time to be focused" and like this simple trick, there are thousands. But you have to find what works for you and train yourself not to get distracted.
Create a daily event on your calendar for "focus time" and during that time stay away from your phone or any other distractions and turn off notifications. It costs at the beginning but, like everything, there is nothing that cannot be trained.
Working remotely is the best. But especially when you start, you have to adapt, learn to be disciplined, and find what works best for you.
First, you have to find a routine and create a set of habits that work for you. Don't be afraid to experiment and try new things. Ask other people you know who are highly productive what their productivity secrets are, get inspired by them, try and adapt the ones that work best for you to your day-to-day.
For remote teamwork, it is very important that you communicate clearly with your colleagues and never have any problem asking for a short call to clarify doubts or talk about a specific topic.
Another thing that will help you a lot is, if you can, reduce your meetings to those that are strictly necessary, no meetings for the sake of it. If you have a meeting, it has to have a goal and you have to make a profit from it, otherwise, it doesn't make sense.
Your notes app like Evernote and your calendar from now on are your best friends. Get organized and sign up for EVERYTHING. It is easy to forget things, meetings, comments, tasks ...
In short: be clear about your objectives, get organized, and always be able to know where to find the information you need. With this you have 95% earned, the rest is attitude.
